Mapping the cinemas

Mapping the cinema is new publication writen by Klemen Žun and published by Art Cinema Kinodvor.

Mapping the cinemas is one of the main projects in the Year of Cinema, the year Kinodvor is celebrating its 90th anniversary. It is based on the research of Kinodvor’s history, which has shown that Ljubljana boasts a very rich history of cinemas. In the Slovenian capital, films were screened at more than seventy locations or cinema venues, at more than two hundred different cinemas.

Cinemas in Ljubljana will be mapped anew by:

  • Cinema Map, a book by Klemen Žun that presents the main characteristics of cinema venues in Ljubljana (already available at the bookstores),
  • a map of cinema venues within the Ljubljana beltway, which comes with the book,
  • screenings of selected films at former cinema venues or locations that scream cinema, such as Grand Hotel Union, Kino Šiška, Congress Square, the Opera House etc.
