Inaugural UK Focus Group Meeting

The inaugural meeting for the UK CINAGE Focus Group took place on Monday, 10th February at Leeds Metropolitan University. Ann Tobin, CINAGE Research Fellow and Mark Robinson, Senior Research Fellow for Health and Wellbeing and CINAGE researcher, explained the core aims and objectives of the CINAGE project.

Participants were invited to introduce themselves and give a brief description of their occupation and the reasons why they had volunteered to be part of the focus group.

At this point, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – one of the UK selection of three films and the first film of the 12 that the Focus will be asked to watch and consider – was screened. After the screening there was a discussion with the Group being asked to address what they considered to be the key issues in the film and to share their opinions as to how they related to the 'active ageing competencies'.

Ann Tobin then explained to the Group how they should complete the Focus Group Grid Forms (each member of the Focus Group were given 12 forms – one per film) after viewing each film.

Participants were each given a copy of the following films:
  • Saraband
  • Amour
  • Empties
  • Wolke 9
  • Good to go

Each member of the Focus Group will be sent copies of the remaining six films as soon as they are received by Leeds Metropolitan University.

It was agreed that the final UK CINAGE Focus group meeting will take place on 10th March 2014.
